Velours végétal

The installation “Velours végélal” takes place in the former Veterinarians’ School in Brussels which was built in 1903 then abandoned in the 1960s.

The imposing and grandiose place is reminiscent of a mineral cathedral. The perspective of the solid ribbed passages is underlined by the lightness and transparency of the work.

I created a dialogue between the industrial past built to last and the ephemeral lightness of the barley seeds gleaned nearby.

Like a flight of seeds, the barley seeds form a veil allowing the light to pass through. In movement, the weft evolves and becomes vegetable velvet.
